Jamaican Jerk Turkey Sloppy Joes

I purchased the newest Whole30 cookbook and tested a few recipes. This sloppy joe is flavorful and hits the spot. I’ve adjusted the original recipe a little bit to fit my macros. Find my version below.

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 # Lean Ground Turkey 97/3 (6oz serving measured raw)

  • 1 Lime

  • 1 Small Onion Chopped

  • 1 Bell Pepper (Can substitute zucchini or cucumber), Chopped

  • .5- 1 Jalepeno (Optional) Chopped & Seeded

  • 1.5 TBS Jerk Seasoning

  • 1 TSP Salt

  • 1 TSP Smoked Paprika

  • 2 14-oz cans of fire-roasted tomatoes

  • 1 can of crushed pineapple

  • 2 TSP Coconut Oil

  • 2 TBS Coconut Aminos

  • 4 Romain Hearts

  1. In a large skillet, heat the 2 tsp of coconut oil.

  2. When hot, add 1 chopped onion and cook for 2 minutes.

  3. Add 1.5 pounds of turkey, 1.5 TBS jerk seasoning, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp smoked paprika, 1 chopped bell pepper (or sub), and jalapeno. Cook until the meat is done and the onions are soft.

  4. Stir in 2 cans of fire-roasted tomatoes and 1/4 cup of crushed pineapple juice. Bring to a boil.

  5. Once it has boiled, reduce to a simmer and add 2 tbs of coconut aminos, stir. Let it simmer until it has reached the consistency you desire.

  6. Wash romaine and serve it as a shell or chop it and make it into a salad. Use 2 tbs of crushed pineapple to top if desired. Squeeze 1/4 lime on top. 1 heart per serving.

  7. This is 4 servings.
